What isabgol is
Isabgol husk is the thin outer layer of the Plantago ovata seed. When it meets water it swells into a gel, which is why it is valued as a source of soluble dietary fibre and as a binder and texture improver in food. The husk is separated from the seed, cleaned and graded, and can also be milled into psyllium husk powder.
Where it is grown
India is the world's leading producer of isabgol, and the crop is grown mainly in Gujarat and Rajasthan. The trade centres on Unjha in North Gujarat. Salina Psyllium is based in nearby Palanpur, which keeps us close to the growers, cleaners and processors.
Grades and forms
